Name: James aka Jacob Harney was the son of Luke Harney and Margaret Carroll aka Kitsen/Kitchen from Cahir, Tipperary, Ireland. James aka Jacob was the second son named James, as the first one, born a year earlier died in infancy.
Research Note: Mother's maiden name looks like Kitsen on the first James' baptism in 1815, and like Kitchen on the second James' baptism in 1816. This is likely phonetic spelling. The first James died and the second son was named the same. Margaret's maiden name on other records becomes Carroll. Since the Carroll name is common in the parish, and no other mention of Kitsen/Kitchen was found, Carroll is being used here.
James' parents came to America and settled in Glengarry, Ontario, Canada.

James was married to Elizabeth Fay (1809-1896), daughter of Richard Fay of county Meath, Ireland, and Plattsburg, New York. James worked as a blacksmith for a time in Plattsburg, before settling on the Fay homestead after his father-in-law passed away. Sources indicate James and Elizabeth had eight children.
