Biography

This profile is part of the Harney Name Study.

John Henry Harney was the son of Gilbert Tennant Harney and Charlotte (Kyle). On 23 July 1846, he went into a well for repairs to the pump. He was overcome by "well-damps" (mephitic gas), and fell to the bottom dead. His father, a minister in the Christian Church, immediately went in after him, and suffered the same fate.
