Biography

This profile is part of the Harney Name Study.

Born March 1858 in County Waterford, Ireland, the son of Patrick and Mary (Griffin) Harney. Young Patrick immigrated to the U.S. on board the "Necla" from Annestown, arriving on 14 February 1880.

He settled in Boston, and married shortly after his arrival (21 April 1880) in Cambridge, to Johanna Dunphy, daughter of Edmund and Julia Dunphy. Patrick and Johanna had the following children:

  • Peter F.(b.1881);
  • Mary Joseph (b.1882), married twice;
  • Julia Agnes (Mrs. Timothy) QUILL (b.1884);
  • Ellen (b. 22 Dec1890), Mrs. Henry T Noonan;
  • Patrick (c.1888-1960); and
  • Edward F. (also Edmund) Harney (1894-1970).

Patrick Harney died in Somerville, MA, 16 April 1934.
