GEORGE WASHINGTON HARNEY (1828-1863) Tennessee

The eldest son of Thomas Washington Harney and Cynthia A. (Bay), and grandson of George Washington Harney. Exact birth date provided by Steve Harney of Illinois is 21 Jan 1828, but source is not known.

George Washington Harney obtained a license to marry on 22 December 1855 to Jane J.M. Witherspoon. ^[1] The marriage took place on 23 Dec 1855, Rutherford, Tenn. ^[2]

G.W. Harney was killed in the Civil War at the battle of Murfreesboro, Tenn. ^[3] leaving a widow and three small children.

The 1870 census of Warren county, Tennessee, includes Jane Harney and children
