DAVID JOHN HARNEY (1863-1930) Born June 1863, in Plattsburg, New York, the son of John Harney and Mary (Dillon) of Cadyville. David John became a land surveyor, timber estimator, and real estate dealer in Wisconsin. He was elected to Wood County Board (1913-14) and was Alderman on the Marshfield City Council. He married May Reynolds (1865-1958), who was born near Green Bay, WI. They had three illustrious sons: David Ray (1888-1913), who worked with the Forest Service, in Seattle, WA, and died of accidental injuries; Thomas Porter (1893-1960), who became a State Senator in Pennsylvania; and John Reynolds Harney (1897-1984), who was a Veterinarian with the US Department of Agriculture.

May Reynolds Harney wrote an article for the Marshfield News-Herald, published 15 July 1944, about her early days in the area, since she was a pioneer resident of the community. While in Marshfield, she was a member of the Marshfield Woman's Club and took an active part in its social welfare program. At one time the family home was on a farm south of the city, at the junction of highways 10 and 13, which is still known as Harney's Corner. She concludes the article with the following: "I was married while we lived at Manville. We went to Butternut to live for a few years, then to McMillan and then to Marshfield. One son was born to us at Butternut, one was born at McMillan, and our baby boy was born at Marshfield. And here I am now, way out at Philadelphia, Pa., with all my lovely memories of the good old days of saw mills, and pine forests that was my life for so many years. It all is so dear to my heart."
