Biography

William was born on April 29, 1907, probably in Marion County, Kentucky. He is the son of William Harp and Georgie Miles.

He was christened on May 11, 1907, at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in New Hope, Nelson County, Kentucky.

William enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves on February 1, 1943 at Fort Hayes in Columbus, Ohio, serving in a transportation unit.[1]

He died on November 14, 1956 in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky.[2]. He is buried in Fairview Cemetery, in Leitchfield, Grayson County, Kentucky. A memorial can be found on Find A Grave.

May 11, 1907 - Baptism - Baptized William Zacharias Harp by Rev. Leo Harrigan at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. Sponsor, Mary Harp. Parents: William H. Harp and Georgiana Miles.[3]

1910 - United States Federal Census - In the 1910 census, William H Harp, 42, is listed with his wife Georgeama, 36, in magisterial district 8, Marion County, Kentucky. Also living with them are their children, Mary L., 14; May, 12; Annie R., 7; and William Z., 2. William is a laborer at a distillery.[4]

1920 - United States Federal Census - The 1920 census shows William H Harp, 50, living with his wife, George Ann, 44, in Chicago, Marion County, Kentucky. Living with them are children, Mary May, 22; Annie R., 15; William, 12; Carmel, 8; and J.M., 4. William is farming.[5]

1930 - United States Federal Census - In the 1930 census, Georgie is listed mistakenly as a widowed male, George N. Harp, 59, and head of household in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. Living with her are three of her children: William Harp, 23; Anna Ruth Harp, 26; and James M. Harp, 14.[6]

1940 - United States Federal Census - In the 1940 census, Georgia, 65, is listed as head of household in Ward 7, Louisville, Magisterial District 2, Jefferson County, Kentucky. Living with her are her sons, William S, 32, and James, 24. Also in the household is her widowed daughter, May Ball, 42, and her daughters, Anna Ruth Ball, 10; Normal Lee Ball, 8; and Loretta Ball, 4. William is working as a laborer in a bed spring factory; James is a repairman in a radio factory and May is working as a maid in a hospital.[7]

February 1, 1943 - Enlistment - U.S. Army Reserves, three-year enlistment, Fort Hayes, Columbus, Ohio.

November 14, 1956 - Death - Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky.
