Biography

George was born about 1830. He passed away in 1865.

In 8 Nov 1864, George enlisted with Company E of the 47th Missouri Infantry at Ironton, Missouri. His service record indicated he was 33 years of age, 5' 11" tall, with a fair complexion, blue eyes , dark hair, and was born in Jackson County, Tenn. By December 16, 1864 he was admitted to the Post Hospital in Paducah, Ky for treatment of Rubeola. He was then "ordered to his regiment on January 18, 1865 and while on his way to Nashville, TN on board Steamboat, he was put off at Chattanooga Tenn- sick with small-pox where he was admitted to small-pox hospital (date unknown) and died of said disease Feby. 28, 1865."[1] Where was he interred????

His wife filed a widow's pension for Civil War Service ( 20 Jan 1866). [2] It would be necessary to review the actual pension records to determine whether the application was for widow benefits or disability.

His wife apparently had a child in 1869 and gave her the last name of Harper.
