According to descendants, Robert Harper was born about 1721 in Greene County, Georgia; however, the purported father, Banister Harper, was documented in Halifax County, Virginia, and Greene County was not created until 1786. He was more than likely born later than 1721 since his father would only be 11 in 1721.
Descendants claim that Robert, son of Banister Harper, is the one who migrated to Mecklenburg North Carolina and South Carolina; however, the tax records for Banister Harper in Halifax County, Virginia prove he did not.
Halifax, Virginia 1786 Tax Banister Harper |
Banister was taxed in Halifax County through the year 1787 when the record recorded:
Robert the son of Banister Harper would also not be the Robert Harper who was granted land in Wilkes County, Georgia in 1784 or the assistant Judge of Wilkes County recorded in the minutes of the Executive Council since he was in his father's household through 1787.
His brother, John, appears to be the older brother since he was taxed in another household in 1786, and named as Executor to Banister's estate. His father, Banister Harper, left a legacy to son, Robert Harper, in his Last Will and Testament written the 19th day of October 1793 in Wilkes County, Georgia.[3]
Descendants claim Robert Harper died in 1799 in Greene County, Georgia.
