Biography

James Samuel Harper was born the 19th of August 1862 in Shelby county, Alabama. James was the son of James Harper and Mary Ann Niven.[1]

James, age 8, appears in the 1870 Federal census in Shelby county, Alabama in the household of his step-father, James Farrell.[2]

James, age 18, appears in the 1880 Federal census in Shelby county, Alabama in the household of his step-father, James Farrell.[3]

James married Almira Evans on the 10th of November, 1892 in Shelby county, Alabama. Almira Evans was the daughter of Thomas G. Evans and Joannah Armstrong.[4]

James appears in the 1900 Federal census in Shelby county, Alabama as head of household. James' household appears as follows: James age 37, born Aug. 1862; occupation farmer; Myra age 29 born Feb. 1871; mother of three children with two children living; Forest age 4 born July 1895; and Woodfrie age 1 born March 1899.[5]

James appears in the 1910 Federal census in Shelby county, Alabama as head of household. James' household appears as follows: James age 47, occupation farmer; Mira age 39, mother of 8 children with 4 children living; Forest age 14; Woodfin age 11; Hubbard age 8; and John age 4.[6]

James appears in the 1920 Federal census in Shelby county, Alabama as head of household. James' household appears as follows: James age 57, occupation farmer; Mira age 47; Hubbard age 18; John age 13; and daughter Alpha age 9.[7]

James appears in the 1930 Federal census in Shelby county, Alabama as head of household. James' household appears as follows: James age 67, occupation farmer; Myra age 59; Hubbard age 28; and Alpha age 19.[8]

James' wife Almira "Myra" died the 26th of July 1939.[9]

James, age 77 appears in the 1940 Federal census in Shelby county, Alabama in the household of his son Hubbard Harper[10].

James died the 1st of April 1952 in Shelby county, Alabama.[11]
