Published in the Athens Review September 21, 1950 Funeral services for James Allen Harper, 80, who died Sunday night at 10:45 in a San Angelo hospital following a cerebral hemorrhage, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 from the First Methodist Church in Murchison. Officiating ministers were Rev. Clint Hall, Rev. Joe Bennett Stuart, and Rev. W.A. Winkles. Grandsons acted as pallbearers. Interment was in the Edom Cemetery. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. J.A. Harper of Murchison; three sons, Willie R. Harper of Japton, Arkansas, Clyde H. Harper of Fort Worth, James Allen Harper Jr. of San Angelo; three daughters, Mrs. Tom Johnson of Abilene, Mrs. Homer Page of Myrtle Springs, and Mrs. Joe Shelton of Murchison. One brother, George F. Harper of Rome Georgia, and 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Harper was visiting his son in San Angelo at the time of his death. He was a long time resident of Henderson County, having moved into the New York Community in 1898. He later moved to Brownsboro and from there to Murchison, where he maintained his home at the time of his death. Mr. Harper married Miss Elizabeth Jones on November 22, 1899, and the couple celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in their Murchison home last year. A well known and retired farmer, Mr. Harper was a member of the First Methodist Church in Murchison. Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
