MR BENJAMIN HARPER Those who came in contact with the office of the Justice Department, in Dunedin up to about 12 years ago will remember with pleasure their association with Mr Benjamin Harper, who was a highly esteemed employee of that department, and they will regret to learn of his death, which occurred on Tuesday last at the age of 84 years. The early part of Mr Harper's career was spent in the service of the department at Naseby and Nenthorn during the days of the gold rush. He became clerk of the Magistrate's Court at Greymouth and subsequently at Dunedin, retiring from the latter position in 1921 on the completion of 40 years' service. Mr Harper did not take part in public affairs, but he was an enthusiastic gardener. His wife and two sons Messrs N. Harper (who was killed in the last war) and R. Harper predeceased him. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs I. E. Lovelock and Mrs G. Miles. Major J. E. Lovelock, the famous Olympic runner, is a grandson. [4]
