Carl Walter Harper was born 27 November 1907 in Villa Ridge, outside Mounds, Pulaski, Illinois, the son of James Walter Harper and Anna Lucretia Minton. He was a switchman for the railroad.
He first married Evelyn Corbett (b.1908) and second married Ascha Laws (1903–1959)

Carl W. Harper Carl W. Harper, 79, of Calumet City, formerly of Mounds, died at noon Thursday, at Regency Place Nursing Home in Dyer, Ind.
Mr. Harper was a retired employee of Illinois Central Railroad. He was born Nov. 27, 1905, in Mounds to James Walter and Anna Minton Harper. Survivors include two sons, Carl Ray Harper of Dalton, Kenneth Harper of Calumet City; four daughters, Shirley Stringer of Pulaski, Betty Udvare of Calumet City, Gloria Wittl of Dyer, Ind. and Sharon Ryan of Hammond, Ind.; two sisters, Virtus Graves of Villa Ridge and Josephine Morris of Memphis, Tenn. ; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Achsah Harper in 1959 and three sisters. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery in Mounds. Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
