GABRIEL HOLMES HARRELL was born in Bertie County North Carolina 12 August, 1778. He died 16 October, 1829 in Dallas County Alabama. He was a son of Josiah Harrell and Mary Ann Gardner. Gabriel Holmes Harrell married his second cousin, Frances Harrell on 22 December, 1798 in Bertie County, North Carolina. Frances or "Fanny" Harrell was a daughter of Josiah Harrell, Jr. and Sarah Harrell. Fanny was born 04 April, 1781 in Bertie County NC and died 25 May 1839 in Dallas County Alabama.
After their first six children were born the family moved to the Alabama Territory and settled near what became Harrell, Dallas County. The Fort family also moved into Dallas County, settling nearby at Forts (later Marion Junction after the railroad came). In Alabama the Harrells had their last two Children, Gabriel Holmes Harrell, Jr. and Elizabeth Ann. The children lived to adulthood and married with the possible exception of Josiah (born c1808).
Gabriel Holmes Harrell and Fanny Harrell had the following children:
GABRIEL HOLMES HARRELL, SR.'S father, Josiah, was a son of Jesse Harrell and Fereby (Moore?) Josiah Harrell died after 1791. Jesse Harrell was born about 1729 and died about 1788. Jesse Harrell signed his will September 19, 1786, probated February 1788. Jesse Harrell was a son of John Harrell, Sr. born before 1692 in Virginia, died about 1758 in Bertie County NC and married Grace (Unknown possibly Boswell).
FRANCIS "FANNY" HARRELL was a daughter of Josiah Harrell, Jr. who signed his will August 20, 1783, probated November 1783 in Bertie County. This Josiah Harrell was in turn a son of Josiah Harrell who was born about 1730 [He witnessed a deed for a neighbor Needham Byran in Bertie County in 1751. 1751 - 21 = 1730] and died about 1773. He was a son of John Harrell and Grace (unknown last name possibly Boswell).
Gabriel Holmes Harrell's maternal grandparents were James Gardner and Mary Turner. James Gardner was born about 1720 and died before Nov. 1790. Mary Turner was born about 1730. James Gardner left a will signed September 12, 1790. One of the witnesses to the signing of the will was William Rasco.
William Rasco's wife, Rachel (Harrell) Rasco was a daughter of Jesse Harrell and Fereby (Moore?) Harrell and a sister of Josiah Harrell who married Mary Ann Gardner. Part of the estate settlement of James Gardner mentions Josiah Harrell the then husband of Mary (Gardner) Harrell and list heirs of Mary Harrell which included Gabriel Harrell.[1]
