From the Harrington Family Genealogical Gazetteer:
"Josiah, b. Scituate, R.I., May 16, 1702, and died at the same place, Oct. 19, 1786. He married Elizabeth Bennett, Nov. 8, 1724. They resided near Bennett's Hill where their first child was born 1727.
He was a surveyor and assisted in the final survey of the town in 1724. His land joined that of Jonathan Harrington, whose father, John, conveyed the same to him June 28, 1736 Josiah Harrington, son of John, received l)y deed froifi his father, June 8, 1729, 140 acres of land. His will, made May 7, 1785, was proved Feb. 12, 1787[2]. He also received a land gift from his father in 1729 under the name, Herndon. In his will made 1778 the name was spelled Herenton. He was made a freeman in 1733."
