Phineas Harrington died 29 Jan 1785, intestate and insolvent. His probate lingered unsettled for over 50 years, with creditors (many of whom were relatives or in-laws) finally receiving, in 1839, 40 cents on the dollar from the proceeds of the sale of 7 acres of land originally part of the widow's dower.[2]
