== Biography ==Evea Ione (Harrington) Powers died of a heart attack December 30, 2009 in the Saint Alphonsus Hospital in Boise, Idaho at age 87. Evea was born June 27, 1922 in the Hornet Creek Valley, northwest of Council, Idaho to Verna Robert Harrington and Clara Theresa (Canaan) Harrington. Evea was raised on a cattle ranch homesteaded by her Idaho Pioneer family. She went by horseback to elementary school. After she graduated from the eighth grade she boarded with families in Council so she could attend high school. She graduated from high school in 1940 and went on to attend the University of Idaho, Moscow. Evea received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1944. She was elected to the National Honorary Forensic Society (Delta Sigma Rho) and the National Honorary Society in Education (Kappa Delta Pi). Because of the war needs, her practice teaching in Pullman, Washington quickly became full-time teaching in speech and English. Evea received a Master of Arts degree in English June 2, 1947 from the University of Idaho. On the same day, she married Harold Auburn Powers. The couple migrated to Fredricktown, Missouri. The union produced two children, Dana Auburn and Drêna Dee. Evea began teaching in the Mine La Motte schools where because of extensive education she was made superintendent. Her first project was to assure that all the children had shoes to wear to school. Over the years, Evea held teaching certificates for English, speech and dramatics in Washington, Missouri, New Mexico, California and Colorado. Upon retirement from teaching, Evea began to explore other professions. She graduated from Columbine Beauty School in 1975, became a licensed Realtor in 1976, obtained a Cake Decorator license in 1979 and became a licensed Cosmetologist in Colorado in 1983. She worked as a legal secretary in Jefferson County, Colorado. When her husband retired, Evea and Harold returned to Idaho and built their dream home in Emmett. Evea threw herself into her first love – creative writing. She was especially active in authoring and presenting Cowboy Poetry based on her experiences as a child on the ranch in Idaho. She published four books of fiction, “Lost Sheepherder Mine”, “Pa’s Old Underwear, or Cowboy Shenanigans in Rhyme”, “T-Bone’s Breakaway” and “Peppy Prairiedog Nabs the Big Wheels”. She won many awards for her creative writing and dramatic presentations.
