Research Notes
Historical records challenge genealogists with multiple spellings of names because 1) names were often spelled as they sounded (eg. Harrington to Heringdon), 2) names changed over time (eg. O’Connor to Connor), 3) people adopted an aka surname (eg. Ambroise Leclerc dit Allard to Ambroise Allard), and in some cases, newer technology translated written names incorrectly. Please keep this in mind when reviewing the records.
