Biography of Denis HARRINGTON of 1803

Denis Harrington was born in Aughadown Parish, County Cork, Ireland about 1803.

Denis Harrington married Catherine Daly on March 2, 1824 in Aughadown. Their marriage sponsors were Daniel Daly and Tim Harrington, who were either the fathers, brothers or cousins of the marrying couple. The priest marrying the couple was named John Daly and may also be related.

Denis Harrington and his wife Catherine Daly Harrington had children:

1. Mary Harrington, born 1833 in Ardagh and baptized on February 14, 1833 in Aughadown Parish. Her baptismal sponsors are Cath Daly and Johanna Harrington.
2. Cate Harrington, born 1839 in "Ardah", and baptized January 27, 1839 in Aughadown. Her baptismal sponsors are Peter Ceadagane and Honora Barry.

Denis Harrington was taxed for 14 acres in 1829 on the Tithe Applotment tax records. The Tithe Applotment was to support the local Church of Ireland, but we think Denis Harrington was Roman Catholic. He was required by law to support the Church of Ireland anyway. His neighbors include Peter Harrington, James Harrington, Florence Harrington and Tim Harrington, probably brothers or other close relatives, plus several members of the Driscoll and Cadogan families.

Denis Harrington probably passed away by 1849, because the House Book Valuation for Ardagh, first page but numbered page 115 in valuation book, shows Denis Harrington crossed out and Catherine replacing him as taxpayer.

Denis Harrington is probably not the Denis Harrington who died in 1876 at the age of 73, and if this is correct, he would have been born in 1803 and married at age 21. Image of this possible death record is not currently available.
