On 22 Jun 1919, she married Lewis Jackson of Hebron, Washington County, New York, and the couple moved to White River Junction, Windsor County, Vermont where Lewis was employed as a truck driver for a furniture company.
The couple purchased a modest home there and Margaret stayed at home to care for the children. She was, however, in poor health which frequently restricted her to bed rest. The older girls in the family assisted in the household duties, parented the younger children, or worked in the community for additional income.
Both parents were strict with the children. Children were "seen and not heard" and never questioned their parents. Neither Lewis nor Margaret offered any personal information about themselves, their families, or their lifestyle.
