LEWER Mrs Farmer Ohariu W.
____________________________________________________________________________________
Nearly four years after Charles died, Emma LEWER formerly HARRIS, Widow, aged 45 years, (she was at least 52 years old), remarried on 28th April 1877 at the Wellington Registry Office to Edward STUBBS, a Labourer of Ohariu who was also recorded as being 45 years. Because of Emma's age it's not thought that she had more children. Emma, according to her death certificate reached the old age of 85 years and died of heart failure on the 29th April 1907 at 27 Broadway Terrace, Wellington, at the residence of her daughter Emma and son-in-law Richard BARBER. There is no mention of her second marriage on her death certificate which gives her name as Emma LEWER and not STUBBS. This remains a bit of a mystery as there appears to be no divorce note on her marriage certificate to Edward STUBBS.

According to Emma LEWER's death certificate she was also buried at Ohariu, probably at The Holy Trinity Church Cemetery next to her first husband Charles. Unfortunately the records for the Church Cemetery no longer exist, because they were apparently destroyed in a Church fire at Johnsonville.[1]
