Biography

Mary Harris was born April 11, 1803, in Rutherford County, North Carolina, and died September 1, 1878. She married James Jordan, son of John and Jane Jordan, on February 20, 1823, in Hickman County, Tennessee. The name was originally spelled "Jordan;" however, the descendants in Illinois usually spelled the name "Jerdan" or "Jerden". James was born in about 1798 in North Carolina. They moved to Illinois at about the same time as Mary's parents, and settled at Bingham, Fayette County, Illinois in 1827. The will of James Jordan/Jerdan was probated on March 10, 1843, in Fayette County, Illinois. James and Mary were buried in Pope Cemetery, South Hurricane Township, Fayette County, Illinois.[1]
