Jane Harris was born c. 1755 in Monmouth County, New Jersey to John Harris (c. 1720-after 4 August 1821) and Jemima Patty Ashton (c.1730-after 4 August 1821). She was a cousin of her husband; therefore the same last name.

Marriage and Family

She married her cousin, James Harris (1750-1812) in 1778 in Sussex, New Jersey.

1. Henry Harris was born in 1780 in New Jersey, United States. He married Hannah Hendrickson (1780-1847) on 9 January 1809 in Monmouth County, New Jersey and second Nancy J. Jordan (1797-1863) on 28 February 1832 in Clermont County, Ohio. Henry died in 1847 in Wayne Township, Clermont County, Ohio, United States.
2. Acca Harris was born in 1782 in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. She married Hutson Carter (d. 1820) in 1802 in Monmouth County, New Jersey. Acca died in 1835 in Clermont County, Ohio, United States.
3. Starkey Harris was born in about 1788 in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. He married Nancy Ann Hendrickson (1793-1876) on 25 May 1812 in Monmouth County, New Jersey. Starkey died on 17 December 1870 in Edenton, Clermont, Ohio, United States.
4. Alice Elsie Harris was born in 1790 in Toms River, Ocean, New Jersey, United States. She married William D. Thompson in 1806 in Monmouth County, New Jersey. Alice died on 28 October 1864 in Edenton, Clermont, Ohio, United States.
5. Jemima Harris was born in 1792 in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. She married Joel Grant (1788-1863) in 1815 in New Jersey. Jemima died in 1828 in Wayne Township, Clermont County, Ohio, United States.

Death

Gives parents of James as Starkey Harris and Nancy Ann Hendrix. James was commissioned as an ensign in the Hunterdon County, New Jersey Militia and also served as an ensign during the Revolutionary War in the New Jersey State Troops. It also mentions that Jane performed revolutionary service by melting her spoons and other articles down for bullets and providing shelter and food for the continental army troops. The applicant mentions that he knew Jane personally. She moved to Clermont County, Ohio with her son Starkey Harris about 1820 and died there on 23 September 1855.
