Levi was born in 1795 in Hinds County, Mississippi. He was the son of Samuel Harris (1750-aft. 1798) and Elizabeth Cunningham (1767-1825).

He served in the War of 1812. He first enlisted on Sept. 15, 1812, as a Private in Col. Clairborne's Regiment of the Mississippi Territory Militia[1]. He served until the company was discharged in March 1813 in Baton Rouge[2].
He enlisted again as a Private on Sept. 15, 1814[3], in the cavalry regiment commanded by Maj. Thomas Hinds[4]. Shot through the right shoulder in the battle of New Orleans[5], Jan. 8, 1815, lost use of right arm and hand.
After the war he returned home to Hinds where he worked as a farmer, in real estate and a business owner.
On 28 Apr 1833, in Clinton, Hinds, Mississippi, he married Lucy Ann Green. They had 9 known children, with all but 1 not reaching the age of 30, 3 who died as infants and only two who survived him.
Dec 31, 1847: Sold plantation 12 miles above Jackson, MS[12].
December 1856: sold his plantation at public auction[13]. A plantation that "containing 800 acres; with a Corn, Fodder and Hay" along with working animals and household items.
His mother married again after his father died to someone with the surname "Snyder.
One of his siblings is Alonzo Snyder who was born in 1816 and died during the Civil War, around 1865. Alonzo served as a district judge and state senator of Tensas and Madison Parishes.
Another brother is Ransom Snyder, born around 1818. He was living in Louisiana in 1880. Not much else known outside that.
