Cornelius was born in 1908. He was the son of George Harris and Martha Hawkins. He first married Evaline Peltier. Cornelius Harris later married Bertha Clark. They had at least five children, born in Louisiana between 1932 and 1937. He died in 2001.[1]

The household included Cornelius Harris, 42, a self employed junk dealer, who completed eighth grade, and who worked 52 weeks in 1949, earning $2500; his wife, Nertha C., 39; their children, Mildred, 22; Sadie M., 16; Verlie M., 13; Augustina, 11; and Huey P., 6; and their infant grandson, Alton Harris, born in Feb. 1950. All members of the family were born in Louisiana. [6]
Bertha (Clark) Harris, 47, died on 3 july 1958 in Houma, Terrebonne, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Richard Clark and Sarah Williams; and the wife of Cornelius Harris. [7]
