Edward Harris was the youngest son of William Harris of Southminster, Essex, and his third wife Agnes Rutter.[1][2]
Edward was a beneficiary of the will of his father William Harris esq., the will made on 12 Sep 1556, at which time he was under the age of 21.[3]
He was recorded in the Pardon Roll of 1559 as "Edward Harrys late of Southmyster, co. Essex, alias a son of William Harrys, deceased".[4]
Edward Harris married first Elizabeth Barrington, daughter of Sir Thomas Barrington by his first wife Alice Parker.[5][6][7][8] Other sources incorrectly recorded her as the daughter of Sir Francis Barrington.[1][9]
He married second Mary Josselyn on 8 July 1583 at Shellow Bowells, Essex.[10] The marriage of "Edward Harrys & Mary Josselyn, Spinster, dau. of Henry Josselyn, of Willingale Doe, co. Essex" was by General Licence dated 18 Jun 1583.[11][12] NB The Harris Pedigree in the Visitation of Essex incorrectly noted her name as Anne.[1]
Children by his first wife Elizabeth Barrington:[5]
Arthur was said to have died on 01 Jun 1588[9] or in 1589[12] but it seems he, or perhaps a second son named Arthur, died in 1662.[15]
Morant[9] stated that Edward Harrys held the Manor of Cage [Southminster, Essex] in 1574.
As his second wife Mary then went on to marry Robert Leigh of Chingford, Essex, probably around 1591 and have further children[12][16] then perhaps Edward Harris died sometime between 1585 and 1591.
