Amy was born in 1786, the child of Thaddeus Harris and Temperance Delap. [1]
Amy married Caleb Smith at Cornwallis Township in 1811.[2]
There are four known children, all of whom emigrated to the United States, and all of whom indicated their birthplace as Windsor, Nova Scotia.
In 1838, there is an Amy Smith, innkeeper, resident at Windsor, with a household of four, including a boy and girl both under 14 years, and a male over 14 years of age.[3] This is without doubt the correct person, with son John T Smith being 15 years old, son William (11), and daughter Rachel (9). The oldest son, James Smith was 18 years old and not living in his mother's house.
In 1858, Amy is named in a passenger roster arriving at Boston from Cornwallis. In the 1860 US Census, she is recorded living in the home of her daughter’s family at Brooklyn, also in 1870. She died age 87 at Brooklyn in 1873.
The spouses that had been attached, i.e., "unknown Kelly" and "John Smith" were unsourced and appear to be mistaken. They were removed by Andrew Payzant.
Amy's birth at Cornwallis and marriage to Caleb Smith are recorded in the Cornwallis Township Book. Residence at Windsor in the 1838 Census. Death information from New York Death Certificates.
