1850 Census

In 1850, Sarah E. Harris, age 8, is living with her father Abednego Harris, 42 (a blacksmith), and siblings, Francis M. (15 years old), Thomas J. (14), Sarina A. (12), Elijah J.M. (10), Rachael S. (6), Nancy P. (3), and Nancy Price (19).

Abednego is recorded as having been born in Washington County, VA. Francis M. and Thomas J. Harris are recorded as having been born in Kentucky. Sarina A. is recorded as having been born in Washington County, VA. And Sarah E., Rachel S., Nancy P. and Nancy Price are all recorded as having been born in Russell County, VA.[1]

1860 Census

In 1860, Sarah E. Reynolds, 18, can be found living with her husband Washington Reynolds, 19 (a farm laborer), in Russell County, Virginia. They are accompanied by her father Abednego Harris, a blacksmith at the age of 52, and his son and Sarah's brother, Thomas Harris, 24 (a farm laborer). Some of Abednego Harris's remaining children can be found living with his mother-in-law Elizabeth Helton, 87. They include: Rachel Harris, 14, and Nancy Harris, 12. [2]

1870 Census

In New Garden, Russell County, Virginia, Sarah E. and her husband George Washington Reynolds are both 28 years old. George Washington Reynolds is a farmer and Sarah keeps house.[3]

1880 Census

George Washington Harris, 40 and Sarah Harris, 39, continue to reside in the New Garden (68th District) Township of Russell County, Virginia, where they are living with Elizabeth Griffith, 58. Sarah cannot read, nor write. And Elizabeth is listed as being single. All were born in Virginia, as well as their parents.[4]
