Biography

Frederick Harris was born in 1859, his birth registered at Geelong, Victoria. He is the son of Joseph Harris and Frances Delbridge. ^[1] His parents moved a back and forward from the Bendigo area, to Geelong, and ended up settling at Clunes.

In 1881, in Victoria, Frederick Harris married Mary Ann Wrathall. The marriage registration records his birthplace as Geelong, and hers as Smythesdale, both Victorian towns. ^{[2] [3]} They registered the births of four children in Clunes, Victoria: Mary Louisa Victoria (1881), Frances Maud (1883), Frederick (1885), and Anne Maria (1887).

In 1897, he was widowed when Mary Ann died in the Geelong Hospital.

Frederick passed away in 1919, aged 59. His death was registered at Ballarat East, Victoria, recording his father as Frederick Harris, his mother's name unknown to the informant. ^[4]

OBITUARY

Harris.-—The many friends of the late Mr Frederick Harris, of Porter street, Ballarat East, will regret to learn of his death, which took place after a long illness. The deceased was connected with the mining industry, and was well and favorably known at Berringa and Italian Gully. A man of sterling character, and universally respected by a large circle of friends, much sympathy has been expressed with the family in their sad bereavement. The funeral takes place to-day at the New Cemetery.^[5]

FUNERAL NOTICES

HARRIS.-The friends of the late Mr Frederick Harris are respectfully invited to follow his remains to their last resting-place, the Ballarat New Cemetery. The funeral cortege is appointed to leave his late residence, No 15 Porter street, Ballarat East, this day (Monday, 31st March) at 2 o'clock p.m.

On 31st March 1919, when Frederick was interred at Ballarat New Cemetery, in the Presbyterian section, he was recorded as a 59-year-old Miner. In April 1919, he was joined by an infant great-grand-daughter, Betty Margaret Antonio. ^[7]
