James Walton Harris Sr., son of Jeptha Vining Harris Sr. and Sarah Carter “Sally” (Hunt) Harris, was born on August 1, 1805, in Elbert County, Georgia.[1][2]
He married Martha (Watkins) Harris (1808-1896), daughter of John Watkins and Susan (Daniel) Watkins, on December 28, 1830.[2][1]
James built Whitehall, an antebellum mansion still standing in Columbus, Mississippi. [3]
James died on November 16, 1887 and was buried at Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, Lowndes County, Mississippi. His memorial has photos and links to those of family members.[1]
