Anecdotal Story from Ancestry.com: "NOTE: John T. Harris - He was born in Tennessee and moved to Doad, which is Elkins Arkansas now. His Father came home from the Civil War sick and died. (he fought for the South). Foster parents took the children. John ran off and took a boat up the Mississippi river and got hurt and was set off in Missouri where he met Perdema. He could neither read or write so she taught him how. John's mother's parents came from England. They came to Arkansas in 1892 where he had been once as a child. He is believed to have died of pneumonia. This is as written by Daughter Bell who was only 6 weeks old when her father died. She also believed he was a Baptist."
