Biography

Edgar Horace Sidney Harris, the son of Walter Harris, and his wife Elizabeth, née Dicketts, who had married at Alderbury, Wiltshire, in Q4 of 1882, was born on 10 Aug 1898. His birth was registered at Poole, Dorset, in Q3 of that year.^[1][2]

Edgar Horace Sidney was baptized on 23 Oct 1898 at Poole. His parents were listed as Walter and Elizabeth, with the family's abode as Poole.^[3]

The 31 Mar 1901 census lists Edgar Horace Sidney living with his parents and five siblings at Russell Place, Poole. Edgar Horace Sidney's age is given as 2, and his birthplace as Poole.^[4]

The 2 Apr 1911 census cites Edgar Horace Sidney now living with his parents and two younger siblings at Martin, near Salisbury, in Wiltshire. Edgar Horace Sidney's age is given as 12, and his birthplace as Poole.^[5]

During the great war Edgar Horace Sidney served in the Machine Gun Corps. His regimental number was 114669. His rank was Private. He was entitled to the Victory Medal and / or British War Medal. He was demobilized from the Army Reserve on 3 Mar 1919.^[6]

On 17 Aug 1919 Edgar Horace Sidney married Lily Elizabeth Pope at Martin, Wiltshire. The marriage was registered at Fordingbridge, Hampshire, in Q3 of that year.^[7]

Edgar Horace Sidney, and his wife Lily Elizabeth, had three children. The first was Ernest Sidney Victor Harris, born 14 Feb 1920. His birth was registered at Fordingbridge in Q1 of that year.^[8] The second was a daughter Rosalie J. L., who was born in 1927. Her birth was registered at Fordingbridge in Q3 of that year.^[9] Their third child was Heather E., who was born in 1936. Her birth was registered at Christchurch, Dorset, in Q3 of that year.^[10]

The 29 Sep 1939 census lists Edgar Horace Sidney living at 30 Manor Road, Ringwood, Hampshire, with his wife Lily Elizabeth and his son Ernest Sidney Victor. There are also two closed records, presumably for his two daughters Rosalie J. L. and Heather E. Edgar Horace Sidney's date of birth is given as 10 Aug 1898, his marital status as Married, and his occupation as Builder's Labourer.^[11]

On 20 Jan 1963 Edgar Horace Sidney's wife Lily Elizabeth died. Her death was registered at Salisbury, Wiltshire in Q1 of that year.^[12]

Ten years later, in 1973, Edgar Horace Sidney married Mary Ann Rose, née Pope, the widow of Albert Christopher John West. Mary Ann Rose was the older sister of Edgar Horace Sidney's first wife Lily Elizabeth. The marriage of Edgar Horace Sidney and his second wife Mary Ann Rose was registered at Christchurch, Dorset, in Q4 of 1973.^[13]

Edgar Horace Sidney died on 6 Nov 1979. His death was registered at Ringwood in Q4 of that year. His death record confirms his date of birth at 10 Aug 1898.^[14]
