Myrtle Harris came to Colorado with her family, Edward Harris and Henrietta Honnold, when she was just a baby in 1879. At the age of 14 she met a young man from Denmark, who told her he would soon receive a large inheritance and he asked Myrtle to marry him. She did so in 1892. His inheritance turned out to be a very small sum and there must have been other issues as well, because Niels was not present in the family after a short time. The story is told that Myrtle's brothers, "Ed" and "Chet" may have encouraged Niels not to come around. In any case, Myrtle's daughter Velma, writes in her memoir that she can only remember seeing her father one time.
Myrtle and Nelse Larsen were married for 9 years. They divorced in 1901 at Larimer County, Colorado. In about 1903 Myrtle was married a second time, to Raleigh Lantis. He had moved to Fort Collins from Kansas. They had two children, Darlene and Aubrey. Raleigh, Myrtle and the four children moved to Phoenix, Arizona in about 1913, where they had two more children, Harold and Bernice.
