Biography

1821 Birth: Charlotte was born in about 1821 in Haxey, Lincolnshire.

1841 Marriage: Charlotte married Gervas Harris (abt.1814-1884) on the 6 January 1841 at St Nicholas Parish Church, Haxey, Lincolnshire. She was a spinster and of full age. 1841 Census: In 1841, Charlotte 20 and her husband Gervas Harris 25 are living in Haxey, with her father John 65 and a farmer, her mother Susannah 55 and her brother John 15. ^[2]

1843 Birth and Death of Daughter: Their daughter Emily Harris (abt.1843-abt.1843) was born in January 1843 East Lound and christened on the 31 January at St Nicholas Parish Church. Unfortunately she died in before the end of March 1843.

1845 Birth of Son: Their son John Harris (1845-1924) was born on the 18 June 1845 in East Lound, Haxey, Lincolnshire.

1848 Birth of Son: Their sonJoseph Harris (1848-1929) was born on the 23 September 1848 in East Lound, Haxey, Lincolnshire.

1850 Birth of Son: Their son Benjamin Harris (1850-abt.1936) was born on the 30 August 1850 in East Lound, Haxey, Lincolnshire.

1851 Census: In 1851, Charlotte is 30 and her husband Gervas is a farmer of 28 acres in East Lound, Haxey, Lincolnshire. They have 3 son John 5 , Joseph 2 and Benjamin 7 months. They have a servant Charlotte Cooper aged 13. ^[3]

1855 Birth of Daughter: Their daughter Susanna Harris (abt.1855-abt.1911) was born in July 1855 in East Lound, Haxey, Lincolnshire.

1858 Birth of Daughter: Their daughter Mary Harris (abt.1858-1925) was born in April 1858 in in East Lound, Haxey, Lincolnshire.

1861 Census: In 1861, Charlotte was 40 and husband Gervas was 46 and a farmer of 45 acres in East Lound. Their children John 15, Joseph 12, Benjamin 10, Susannah 5 and Mary 3. ^[4]

1864 Death of Mother: Her mother Susannah (Drewry) Harris (abt.1785-1864) died on the 22 October 1864 in Haxey.

1865 Death of Father: Her father John Harris (abt.1775-1865) died on the 18 October 1865 in Haxey.

1871 Census: In 1871 they are still living East Lound, Charlotte is 50 and Gervas 56 and a farmer of 60 acres. All their children are all helping on the farm, Joseph 22, Benjamin 20, Susanna 15 and Mary 12, except John who married 4 years earlier in Hull to his wife Lucy. ^[5]

1873 Emigration of Son: Two years later their son Benjamin Harris (1850-abt.1936) emigrated to Illinois in the USA were other members of the Harris's had moved to.

1881 Census: In 1881, Charlotte is 60 and husband Gervas is 66 and a farmer of 50 acres in the Hamlet of East Lound. Their daughter Mary 22 is living with them. They have an indoor servant Thomas Harrison 21. ^[6]

1884 Death of Husband: Her husband Gervas Harris (abt.1814-1884) died on 7 April 1884 in East Lound at the age of 69. They had been married for 43 years and had 6 children.

1891 Census: In Charlotte is 70, a widow, now living alone and on her own means on Main Street, Haxey. ^[7]

1901 Census: Charlotte was 80 and living alone by her own means in the Hamlet of East Lound. ^[8]

1911 Census: She is 90 and widowed living alone. The house was in East Lound and had 7 rooms. The census on the 2 April 1911 states Charlotte had 6 children born alive and 5 were still alive. Haxey, Lincolnshire, England. ^[9]

1912 Death: Charlotte died on the 5 September 1912 in Haxey at the age of 91. She left £66 16s 1d to her sons John Harris (1845-1924) and Joseph Harris (1848-1929) a farmer. ^{[10] [11]}
