Biography
Michael Harris is Notable.
Michael was born in 1804, son of Christopher Prince and Elizabeth (Spurr) Harris. Grandson of Samuel and Mary (Cook) Harris. A prominent lumberman, shipbuilder, and businessman, and supporter of Moncton as an industrial centre. Alexander Pincombe wrote his entry for the Dictionary of Canadian Biography.[1]
... the late Michael S. HARRIS was born at Annapolis in 1804, married in 1826 and raised a family of seven children. Shortly after his marriage, the late Mr. Harris removed from Annapolis to St. John and in 1836 he removed to Moncton then known as 'The Bend' and noted to some extent for shipbuilding, but principally as the stopping place for the stage lines which at that time carried the mail and passengers between St. John and Halifax. He engaged in lumbering and shipbuilding, doing as extensive business especially from 1840 to 1862, during which time he sent many cargoes to Europe, frequently going to England with his vessels. He was elected mayor in 1859 and died of paralysis at his home in Moncton in 1866.
