He is the son of Henry Harris and Agatha Cochrane. Ab, as he was known was born in Gloucester, NSW. In 1920 the family moved to Copeland, 10 miles from Gloucester. In 1925, Ab went to Sydney to go to Fort Street High School and stayed with his aunt in Auburn. In 1927 the rest of the family moved to Burwood in Sydney and stayed there until 1935. They then moved to Strathfield, where his sister still lived in the family home in 1990.
Ab had a strong interest in his family history and in local history and willingly shared what he knew with those who were interested.
Ab was a school inspector prior to retiring. He lived at Foyle Ave, Birrong in Sydney.
