Biography

Frances Mabel (better known as simply Mabel) Harrison was born on the 13th of July 1886 in Dublin city to Robert Frances Harrison and Agnes Blanche Bagwell. The daughter of a barrister, Mabel would grow up to be a successful golfer, winning the Irish Ladies' Close Championship for three years consecutively from 1910 to 1912. Her interest in golf began in her teenage years when she was a registered member of Malahide island club in north county Dublin. She also held memberships at Portrush and the Hermitage golf clubs. Her promise as a player was noted by golf enthusiasts from the early stages of her career. She represented Ireland in competitions in England and Scotland, and even further afield in Canada and the United States.

Today Mabel is commemorated at the Royal Portrush golf club where an annual event, the Mabel Harrison Scratch Cup, is held in her honour.

Mabel was born in 1886.  She was the elder daughter of Robert Harrison and Blanche Bagwell.
