Biography

He was born to Benjamin B. Harrison and Elizabeth Adkins. His marriage certificate lists his middle initial as "H". It also shows his wife Judy's middle initial as "H". It seems both are incorrect however, it's worth mentioning. His son Crawford's birth certificate lists Benjamin's middle name as "Franklin", sworn to by Crawford and his father's youngest sister, Aunt Sally, in 1946 when Crawford applied for his delayed birth certificate at age 65.

He married Judith Katherine Hardwick in White Rock, Missouri in June 1880. They would soon move to Northwest Arkansas, near Eureka Springs where their only son, Crawford Benjamin, was born 19 July 1881. He was killed in his early 20's on a trip to Maysville, Arkansas on 20 May 1884. He was there with a brother looking for property to buy. He was in the saloon and an argument started with a man named James Harman who ended up hitting young Ben on the head with a bottle, a fatal blow, taking a few steps to leave, he fell. It's presumed he died right there. Maysville Arkansas was a booming and violent town at the time. The Bentonian newspaper article states that his body passed through Bentonville on 21 May on the way back to the Eureka Springs area for internment. The location of his grave is unknown at this time (2020). His parents are buried in Dutch Mills Cemetery in Washington County Arkansas. There's an unknown Harrison marker next to his parents that could be him or it could be another relative, Helen, who died as a young teenager.

This tragic family oral history was handed down and over time wasn't clear on the location. Carroll County Missouri is where we thought it happened, turns out he was living in Carroll County Arkansas at the time. Over time, the oral history became Missouri because so many family members on all sides, Harrisons, Hardwicks, Adkins, lived in and around Carroll County Missouri, i.e. Carrollton, Wakenda, White Rock. So the mix up over the years is understandable.
