Biography
Margaret was born in about 1844 to John Harrison and Sarah Harrison nee Scott.
The March 1851 census[1]shows Margaret residing with her family at Beetham Hall, Beetham Westmorland, England, United Kingdom.
The April 1861 census[2]shows Margaret residing in the household of her uncle, Nelson Hewertson and aunt Rachel Hewertson nee Harrison at Maindee Church, Maindee, Monmouthshire, Wales, United Kingdom.
Margaret married[3]Matthew Cope, a Coal Merchant, on 17 May 1869 at St. John's Church, Maindee, Monmouthshire. At the time of the ceremony Margaret resided in Maindee and Matthew Cope resided in Cardiff. Her father John Harrison works as a Farmer and her father in law William Cope is noted as a Colliery Proprietor.
The April 1871 census[4]shows Margaret, aged twenty seven who is married, along with her husband Matthew Cope and seven month old son William Cope visiting her uncle, Nelson Hewertson, a Timber Merchant and Wood Turner who employs three hundred and fifty seven men and boys at Sunnybank Villa, Christchurch, Monmouthshire.
The April 1881 census[5]shows Margaret residing with her family at Quarry Hill, St. Mellons.
The April 1891 census[6]shows Margaret continuing to reside with her family at Quarry Hill, St. Mellons.
The March 1901 census[7]shows Margaret residing with her family at Quarry Hill, St. Mellons.
The April 1911 census[8]shows Margaret continuing to reside with her family in a twelve roomed property at Quarry Hill, St. Mellons.
Margaret, late of Quarry Hill, St. Mellons, passed away aged seventy two on 5 July 1916. Her passing was registered[9][10]during the third quarter of 1916 in the district of Newport, Monmouthshire. Margaret was laid to rest[11]on 8 July 1916 in the parish of St. Mellons. Margaret's probate[12]was adminisitered in Llandaff, Glamorgan and completed five weeks later on 15 August 1916 detailing effects of £3,695 13s 2d to her son William Cope, Barrister-at-Law and a Major in the Glamorgan Yeomanry.
