William Edwards represented Surry in the House of Burgesses in 1706. His will dated January 9. 1722 was proved February 25, 1722. He married twice, (1) Elizabeth Harrison, her headstone indicates she died at 17 years of age. In 1707, she made a deed of land with her husband. Their only child, Benjamin, was born in 1707.[1]
There is a reference to an "Ann Harrison" (aka Sarah Ann Harrison in some later interpretations), daughter of Benjamin and Hannah, married to William Edwards, but no contemporary evidence such a person existed.[2] Parents Benjamin Harrison and Hannah Churchill
She was still living on April 6, 1709 when she appears in a deed in James City County:
"Edwards, Elizabeth Harrison. Power of attorney, 1709 April 6, to John Frayser to acknowledge Mrs. Edwards’ relinquishment of dower rights to land in Jamestown, Va., sold by William Edwards to William Brodnax."
Her tombstone is long gone, but was partially transcribed in 1857. It gave her age at death as 17, her birthdate as January 6, and her death date as the 14th of an unknown month. See her Findagrave.
