Betsey Jane Hart was born about 1862 probably in New Haven, Shiawassee, Michigan, United States of America the daughter of Joseph Hart and Nancy Shipman. In 1870, she appears in the household of her newly widowed mother on the United States Census in New Haven, Shiawassee, Michigan.[1] By 1880, the farm has passed on to her brother Wellman in whose household she appears on the census.[2]
On 5 October 1880, Betsey Jane and George Canze, Jr. marry in Owosso, Shiawassee, Michigan. "Well" Hart and Duters Smith are the witnesses
[3] Betsey and George were the parents of three children: Fred Warren Canze born 5 September 1882;[4] Cleo born 21 May 1885 and Clifton born 20 September 1886.[5] Clifton died in 1891.[6]
Betsey died 14 February 1892 of "La Grippe" in New Haven, Shiawassee, Michigan.[7] She was buried in West Haven Cemetery, New Haven, Shiawassee, Michigan.[8]
