Biography

Stephanus Jacobus was born in Somerset East on 31 May 1839; he was the son of Robert Hart and Johanna Christine (Meintjies) Hart.

He was a farmer, 24 years old, when he married 17 year old Mary Jane Cottingham in Queenstown, Cape Colony, on 16 September 1863.[1]

Stephanus was 74 years old when he passed away in his own home on his farm 'Happy Valley' near Cathcart, Cape Colony, on 22 February 1914.[2][3]
