Jonathan C Hart was born in 1824 in North Carolina, his father, Daniel, was 27 and his mother, Sarah, was 13. He had four sons and two daughters with Sarah Jane McGowan between 1853 and 1865. He died on February 11, 1880, in Sullivan, Indiana, at the age of 56, and was buried in Bethlehem Cemetery located in Carlisle, Sullivan County, Indiana.
Jonathan enlisted into the military on February 7, 1865. He was a Sergeant for Company G, 149th Infantry. He mustered out on September 27, 1865.
1850 Census: Jonathan was 25 years old, living with his wife, Sarah, in Subdivision 61, Knox County, Indiana.
1860 Census: Jonathan was 40 years old, living with his wife and three children in Jefferson, Sullivan County, Indiana.
1870 Census: Jonathan was 46 years old, living with his wife and 6 children in Jefferson, Sullivan County, Indiana.
