Geraldine "Granny Higgs" Higginbotham, 93, of Cottage Grove passed away March 15, 2008 from age related causes.
She was born May 8, 1914 in Fontanelle, Iowa to Robert and Clara (Thomas) Harter.
She grew up and attended school in Bridgewater, Iowa.
The family moved to Oregon in 1934 and to Cottage Grove in 1937. Geraldine lived for 15 years in Bend, moving to be closer to family. She returned to Cottage Grove in March, 2006.
She managed the Rainbow Motel for 18 years and had previously worked for Clarence Lowe at the A&W.
She enjoyed oil painting, crossword puzzles and solitaire. In earlier years, she enjoyed bowling and outdoor activities.
Geraldine is survived by a daughter, Janet Booth and husband, Steve, of Bend, Oregon, a son, Charles Glade and wife, Doris, of Sutherlin, Oregon, step-son , Raymond G. Higginbotham and wife, Arlene, of LaPine, Oregon, a sister, Mary Jane Cooper and husband , Earl, of Cottage Grove, seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey Glade in 1939, an infant daughter, Lois Elaine Glade in 1936 and a son, Gerald Ray Higginbotham in 1971.
Visitation was held March 19 and March 20 from 1-4 p.m. each day at Smith Lund Mills Funeral Chapel. A graveside service was held March 21 at 1 p.m. at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Eugene.
Arrangements were handled by Smith Lund Mills Funeral Chapel, Cottage Grove."[5]
