George was born in Philadelphia in 1763. He married Ann Bates on 15 Oct 1795. At some point he was a seaman, later a rigger and later a merchant. His parentage is unclear although some records indicate his father was also named George and came to Philadelphia, through Amsterdam, from Danzig where he was born. George and Ann had 5 children.
He died on March 18, 1824 and was reportedly buried in the 2nd Baptist Church Burial Ground which was adjacent to the church. The location is only a few blocks from Independence Hall. Information from the PA Historical Society in Philadelphia indicates that the cemetery land was sold by the church and the bodies moved to Ivy Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia. Ivy Hill has no record of either George or Ann being reinterred there. A check with a number of other cemeteries in Philadelphia shows no record of their burial. It is entirely possible that not all of the bodies were moved and that the cemetery land was simply built over.
