Samuel Brubaker Hartman was born April 1, 1830 on a farm near Harrisburg, Dauphin, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Christian Hartman and Anna Brubaker, both born and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Samuel was an American physician, surgeon, and multi-millionaire quack who redefined catarrh as the source of all disease and patented the renowned miracle cure Peruna.

Samuel Brubaker Hartman and Sarah A Martzall were married about 1859.

Samuel and Sarah had the following children, both born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania:

  1. John Henry, born January 7, 1863
  2. Maribel, born June 1, 1872

Samuel died of pneumonia on January 30, 1918 in Columbus, Ohio.
