Adolph Martin Hartwig was born in Elkton, South Dakota to Charles and Anna Opplet. He was one of five known children born to the couple.
Adolph was raised in Elkton, South Dakota. He married Myrtle Fisher on June 1, 1929 in Billings, Montana. The couple settled in Red Lodge, Montana where Adolph worked as a high school teacher.
Between 1935 and 1940, Adolph and his family, which now included two daughters, moved to Thermopolis, Wyoming where Adolph taught at the Hot Springs County High School.
Some time before 1973, Adolph and Myrtle moved to Sheridan, Wyoming.
On December 17, 1973 in Sheridan, Wyoming, Adolph passed away. He was 70 years old. He is buried alongside his wife in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery in Sheridan, Wyoming.
