Research Notes

Many people claim that Pvt. John Harvey is the son of Thomas Harvey, the son of Deputy Governor of North Carolina Thomas Harvey (1698) and Elizabeth Cole, the daughter of Col. James Cole, of Nancymun in Virginia.

The article "The Harvey Family" in The North Carolina Historical and Genealogical Register, Vol. III, No. 3 (July 1903), pp. 476-480 appears to disprove that claim. Their son who was named John Harvey was born ca. 1726, married Mary Bonner, daughter of Thomas and Abigail Bonner, of Beaufort Co., NC, and died in 1775. He was Speaker of the Assembly and Moderator of the Provincial Congress in New Bern, NC.

The Dictionary of North Carolina Biography substantiates "The Harvey Family" article. [1]
