Charles led a very tough life. In his youth he fought in the Civil War and was captured during the Battle of the Wilderness. He was in Company "D" 57th Massachusetts Regiment. He was sent to Andersonville Prison Andersonville Prison then on to Florence Prison Florence Stockade. After a prisoner of war exchange, he went on living his life with medical problems. Death
He passed away on Dec. 23, 1906 in Springfield, Massachusetts and was buried South Cemetery, West Stockbridge, Massachusetts.[1]
