He served as a private in the 2nd Company of the Georgia Battalion commanded by Colonel Elijah Clarke and received bounty land in Georgia for his services.
When John Harvey was born in 1749 in Virginia, his father, Thomas, was 16. He married Margaret Jones and they had nine children together between 1771 and 1786. He then married Martha Patsy and they had 10 children together between 1773 and 1805. He died on June 15, 1823, in Clark, Georgia, at the age of 74.

In 1786, Rev. John HARVEY, Jr. was among the founders of the Powelton Baptist Church, near Sparta, Hancock County, Georgia.[1]
