John Thomas Harvey lived on his father's farm his entire life. He was also known as "The General".
John Thomas Harvey- Born 14 Jul 1841 in Hampshire County, now Mineral Co., W.Va.. probably on the old Elijah Harvey farm. Family seems to have moved to Short Run area in 1849. He was married on 18 Dec. 1876. There were five boys and five girls plus a baby who died early. It is quite obvious why he married late. His father died when he was 18 years old. There were nine brothers and sisters younger than he. It would seem to take some courage to act as a father figure of nine children and then raise an additional ten of his own. He died of cancer of the prostate on 21 Dec. 1922. He had walked down the hill to take a train to the hospital for an operation. He is buried in the Short Run Cemetery. He bore the nickname, "General" because of the way he took charge after his father's untimely death. ( Esther V.
